What to know before your glamping holiday on Ameland
You can reach Ameland by ferry with Wagenborg Passagiersdiensten, departing from Holwerd in Friesland. The crossing takes about 45 minutes, and you can choose to take your car on board. Prefer to get there faster? Hop on the express boat, it only takes around 20 minutes from Holwerd to Ameland. Once you’ve arrived, it’s easy to rent a bike or use the local public transport to explore the island.
Our glamping tents on Ameland are equipped with a split-unit system, allowing you to both heat and cool the safari tent. Keep in mind that the tents are made of canvas — this gives you that authentic tent feeling but also means the fabric is breathable, so the temperature inside can vary slightly depending on the weather.
The best time to visit Ameland for a glamping holiday is between May and September. During these months, you’ll enjoy plenty of sunshine, pleasant temperatures, and a lively atmosphere in the villages and along the beaches.
If you’re planning to go mudflat walking, the period from May to October is ideal. The temperatures are milder, the tidal flats are easier to cross, and it’s the perfect time to combine your adventure with a relaxing stay in a comfortable glamping tent.
Visit the lighthouse in Hollum and climb the 55-metre tower for stunning panoramic views. Take a walk through the beautiful nature reserve ’t Oerd or spend some time at the beach near Buren. And for something truly unique, hop on a traditional horse-drawn tram, a must-do experience on the island!
