South Limburg or the South of France?
As soon as you drive into Camping ’t Geuldal in Meerssen, you feel it: this is a real getaway. The hilly landscape, the almost Belgian-looking architecture of nearby villages, and the friendliness immediately stand out. We stayed here at the invitation of Villatent and tested the 6-person Villatent Ranger. And this one was truly unforgettable.
We arrived on a tropical day – over 30 degrees – but luckily the tent was pleasantly cool thanks to the air conditioning already running. Now that’s glamping. What stood out right away? Everything was spot on. From the well-stocked kitchen kit and the fun welcome package prepared for us, to the extra shade cloth ready to create more shaded spots.
The tent is finished down to the smallest detail. A BBQ stands at the entrance, a hammock hangs invitingly between two poles, and inside it’s pure luxury: a Nespresso machine, rain shower, dishwasher, comfortable beds, and a lockable door to keep your belongings safe. But what really impressed us? The play net and the “secret hut” upstairs – according to my three-year-old son, the highlight of the holiday.
It’s clear that Villatent has carefully thought about their target audience. The tent is fenced in, which is both handy and safe: no escaping dogs or crawling toddlers heading for the path. With the spacious living area and lovely outdoor space, you immediately feel at home. What stands out is that Villatent’s concept is incredibly well thought out, taking comfort and experience one step further. We’ve often stayed in the same type of tent (both are by Outstanding), but the feeling really is different here.
Camping ’t Geuldal itself is quiet, spotless, and modern. Everywhere you see signs of recent investments: from the brand-new water garden (2024) to the indoor playground (2023). The petting zoo with alpacas, rabbits, and chickens is charming – perfect for little animal lovers. Keep in mind: the park is in full swing during high season. Outside of holidays there’s no animation, and the snack bar and pizzeria remain closed. Luckily, you can still enjoy a nice meal or snack at the cozy brasserie “Bie de Groeve.” Fresh bread can simply be ordered at reception.
Want to head out? The surroundings are a paradise for cyclists and hikers. Do rent an e-bike, unless you’re in the mood for some serious climbs. Just five minutes away you’ll find a beautiful outdoor swimming pool, and Valkenburg or Maastricht are close by. Lovely towns, lively terraces, and of course: Limburg pie.
Photo of the pool was taken at the outdoor swimming pool in Meerssen, 5 minutes from the campsite.
The Villatent Ranger costs on average around €130 per night, depending on the season. There are several types of accommodations, ranging from about €70 per night up to €140 per night. You can find the full range and current prices here:
