Tested by Petra: a family weekend at Camping de Schatberg
Join us as we follow our colleague Petra’s holiday, during which she stayed with her family in a Villatent at Camping de Schatberg in Sevenum, Limburg. From playing outside the tent and spending hours in the swimming pool to stand-up paddleboarding and delicious food: in this blog, she shares her experiences and favourite spots on the site.
Last summer, we stayed with our family at Camping de Schatberg in Sevenum. We had lovely weather, so most of our holiday was spent outdoors. And a stay in a Villatent is, of course, perfect for that!
Our Villatent at Camping de Schatberg
Glamping in a Villatent with children is such a godsend. On arrival, we didn’t have to pitch or set anything up: we just put our things down and the holiday could start straight away. Our Villatent Outback had its own bathroom and a spacious veranda, where we spent loads of time. But what we perhaps enjoyed most of all was the tent’s location.
The Villatents are arranged here in a cosy circle, with a small playground for the children in the middle. So they could play to their hearts’ content and quickly make friends, whilst we could keep an eye on them from our veranda. Ideal!
With the lovely weather, we actually spent the whole day outdoors. And in the evening? We’d get a board game out and sit back with a drink, enjoying the evening sun. That’s what a proper holiday means to us.
Water fun indoors and outdoors
There’s no shortage of water fun at Camping de Schatberg. We spent hours at both the indoor and outdoor pools. The slides were, of course, the children’s favourites. Although we have to admit that we secretly enjoyed them a lot ourselves. 😉 With the warm weather, it was lovely to cool off for a bit in between and then head back out into the sun.
An afternoon at the beach
As well as the swimming pools, Camping de Schatberg also has a little beach right by the water. Just lay out your towel, let the kids play in the sand, and you’re all set. Whilst the kids were busy playing with beach balls and building sandcastles, we even went for a spot of stand-up paddleboarding. Highly recommended if you’re there! Another plus: the beach is right next to the restaurant. Fancy an ice cream, a drink or a tasty treat? Then you won’t have to walk far.
A campsite supermarket where you can find absolutely everything
In our opinion, the supermarket at Camping de Schatberg is also worth a mention. It’s a proper supermarket, with a lovely surprise for the children: a slide that lets you glide straight out of the shop!
In the mornings, we’d pop in to pick up fresh bread rolls, and for the rest of our shopping, we didn’t really need to leave the campsite. It’s ideal once you’re settled in at your holiday spot and don’t fancy driving to a supermarket outside the campsite in between.
Of course, you can easily cook for yourself in the Villatent, but we didn’t feel like doing that every evening whilst on holiday. Fortunately, there are plenty of other options, thanks to the campsite restaurant and various eateries in the area. An added bonus: you can simply take pizzas or snacks from the restaurant back to your tent. That way, after an active day, you don’t have to go to the trouble of cooking a full meal and can just relax on the veranda afterwards.
Plenty for the children to do
Our children weren’t bored for a single moment. As well as the small playground by the Villatent and the swimming pools, there was also an extensive entertainment programme. This included craft activities, games and sports. And if they just wanted to do something on their own, they could burn off their energy on the panna pitch or the mini obstacle course, for example.
For us, it was the combination that was particularly nice: there’s an awful lot to do, but you don’t have to be constantly rushing from one activity to the next. Sometimes, just playing outside the tent was enough.
Our glamping experience at Camping de Schatberg
We’ve had a wonderful time at this modern family campsite. The children had plenty of space to play, swim and make new friends, and we particularly enjoyed the convenience of the Villatent.
What made Camping de Schatberg particularly lovely for us were the many facilities on the site. With the indoor and outdoor swimming pools, the little beach, the entertainment programme, playgrounds, catering options and the large supermarket, there’s really everything you need for a relaxing family holiday. It was precisely that combination we found so appealing: plenty for the children to get up to, but also plenty of space to simply relax by the tent.
Camping de Schatberg? As far as we’re concerned, definitely worth a repeat visit!
